Dr. Kate Shoveller
Dr. Anna Kate Shoveller has received her Ph.D. in Nutrition and Metabolism from the University of Alberta. At present, she is a Professor and the Champion Chair in Canine and Feline Nutrition, Physiology, and Metabolism in the Department of Animal Biosciences at the University of Guelph. Along her career, Dr. Shoveller worked in the industry with dog and cat nutrition, investigating energy metabolism and nutrient budgets for pets as well as connecting owner noticeable behavior with animal quality of life. Now back in academia, she teaches companion animal, comparative and equine nutrition; runs an active comparative nutrition research group; and focuses on optimizing nutrition across mammalian species to achieve health and longevity without compromising the future of our food chain. She is the winner of several awards, has published over 120 peer-reviewed papers, contributed to multiple book chapters, holds multiple patents, and has mentored countless students from all levels.
Dr. Dennis Jewell
Dr. Dennis Jewell has received his B.Sc. in Natural Science from the University of Wisconsin; his M.Sc. in Animal Nutrition from Pennsylvania State University; and his Ph.D. in Nutrition from the University of Georgia. Currently, he holds the positions of Adjunct Faculty Member at Kansas State University; editor of the Journal Animals; Member of the American Society of Nutrition and the American Society of Animal Scientists; and Diplomate of the American College of Animal Nutrition. Dr. Jewell has strong foundational knowledge of biochemical and physiological principles, which drive nutrient requirements, and throughout his extensive career in animal nutrition, with an emphasis in dogs and cats, he has been involved with research and product development, legal and regulatory. He has over 275 published book chapters, patents, peer-reviewed journal articles and abstracts, along with over 5,400 citations in scientific research papers.
Dr. Julia Pezzali
Dr. Julia Guazzelli Pezzali has received her D.V.M. from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil; her M.Sc. from Kansas State University, US; and her Ph.D. from the University of Guelph, Canada. She joined Iowa State University in 2023 as an Assistant Professor to aid in the teaching and research of pet nutrition and pet food processing. Throughout her academic career, Dr. Pezzali has conducted numerous research trials in both basic and applied companion animal nutrition and pet food processing; her current research program focuses on characterizing the impact of ingredients, processing conditions, and nutritional interventions on the digestion of nutrients and the metabolism of dogs and cats, with the ultimate goal of supporting the pet food industry in the development of sustainable products that promote the health and well-being of pets.

Meet the founder
Dr. Marcio Goncalves
Dr. Marcio Goncalves earned his veterinary degree from UFRGS, a top university in Brazil, and his PhD in applied swine nutrition from Kansas State University and worked as Global Nutritionist for one of the major swine genetic companies where he led nutrient requirement updates, diet formulation & feeding program for nucleus farms, development of nutritional economic models, and reviewing diets from over 100 customers. Currently, he is the founder of Wisenetix, the largest network of podcasts in the agriculture industry.
He has over 15 years of experience in swine production with exposure to over 20 countries and 120 research studies in pig nutrition/production and his life purpose is to create a positive impact in the world through knowledge dissemination in the global ag industry.
